Our GPS at Wegmans Egg Farm Last night we were out faunetting in the city, and the initial response was interesting. About half the people that we met commended us, and the other half questioned our motives and honesty. No matter what they think, people are talking, and that is our goal.
We went into this knowing that people love Wegmans. In many ways, we do too. But our good feelings towards Wegmans do not stop us from criticizing their egg farm, and the way they promote it as a humane facility.
Some people who have seen the footage insist that we must have videotaped some other egg farm instead. Wegmans has even questioned it themselves. When we first walked into the farm, we couldn't believe what we were seeing either, but every frame of battery cage facility footage in our film is from Wegmans Egg Farm.
We brought a GPS receiver with us the second and third time we went into the farm, when we knew we were going to bring the footage to the public. Here is a frame of video from the third visit.
A full-size shot of the GPS receiver; notice the battery cages in the background. The screen reads N 43 degrees, 15.104 minutes; W 76 degrees, 47.493 minutes.
The resulting numbers, when converted to decimal and fed into an online mapping site, put you here, at the massive sheds at Wegmans Egg Farm.
We also have an eleven second video clip (Windows WMV format) of both the GPS receiver and a cell phone that says the date. The numbers are a little too blurry to read clearly, but this clip will put the screenshot above in context.
We're happy to know of any questions or criticism you might have, so don't be hesitant to contact us. |
