Meatpackers Denounce Animal Cruelty at Wegmans Egg Farm |

 Saturday morning, January 14 nine meatpackers from the United Food Commercial Workers union joined a demonstration in Princeton, New Jersey to denounce the cruel treatment of egg-laying hens by Wegmans Food Markets at its company-run farm. The demonstration was coordinated by Community Animal Project (CAP) of Syracuse and Compassionate Consumers as part of the Wegmans Cruelty Tour.
The meatpackers held signs reading "Wegmans: Go Cage-Free" and "Wegmans Hens Deserve Better" while having a friendly contest to see which of them could hand out the most DVDs and leaflets to passing shoppers.
The meatpackers said they had viewed "Wegmans Cruelty" at a conference last month and were disturbed by what they had seen. CAP and Compassionate Consumers hope to work more with the union members in the coming months.
