Boycott Battery Cage Eggs E-mail
One thing you can do right now is to revoke your financial support of battery cage egg production. By simply not buying eggs or only buying "humane" eggs, you can help send a message to the industry that customers will not support cruel farming practices.

Certified Humane Logo
Producers need to follow strict standards to use this logo, but you may be surprised at what's still considered humane.
Sources for free-range and cage-free eggs:
  • Your local health food store probably carries cage-free eggs.
  • Small family farmers set up booths at farmer's markets.
  • The web site localharvest.com has local farm and market listings.
  • Tops, Wegmans and most other large grocery chains carry cage-free eggs, but make sure you're not accidentally buying eggs from caged hens.

Tips for buying eggs:

  • Review HSUS's egg label guide before making a purchase.
  • Call or write to the company or farm that supplies the eggs and ask for a tour.
  • Try to locate a small, local farm to purchase eggs from and make sure the animals are treated in a way that you approve of.

Sources for egg-free recipes:

Tips on replacing eggs in recipes:

  • Tofu can be used for "scrambled eggs", "egg salad", quiches and in baked goods.
  • Bananas, oil, and applesauce can also be used in baked goods. Some traditional recipes are already egg-free.
  • Ener-G Egg Replacer is a low-cost product to use in baking and as a thickener in sauces.
